Projekt L3 - Fly High -My intention with this project is to certify for level 3 and hopefully set an altitude record in the hybrid M motor class, with a one stage rocket. TAP,s for the certifying are Mr. Rolf Örell Sweden, and Mr. Jürg Thüring Switzerland. The rocket will be constructed from different materials such as fiberglass, carbonfiber, composites (Divinycell) and some parts in alumunium. To work with those materials you need some tools ! Parts will be glued together with different kind of Epoxi glues, depending on where and what you want to glue. One type of glue I use (Loctite 9466 A&B) withstands up to 120°C and endure extreme stress. The length of the rocket is 2.7 meters and the diameter is 10 cm. Staged weight will be approx. 15 kilo. A hybrid motor will be used for propulsion. Liquid peroxide is used as an oxidator and the solid fuel is in this case a thermoplastic. To start the motor you need 100% oxygen from a tank and an arc created from 7500 volt. This ground equipment is situated close to the launch pad. The rocket is constructed in three sections, motor, electronics and parachute. When the rocket reach it,s highest point (apogee) a small parachute called pilot recovery chute will be ejected by the safe Eject II. It,s task is to quickly descent the rocket to a lower level, in this case 600 feet (180 meter). At 180 meter a larger parachute (main chute) will be ejected to reduce the speed for a safe landing. The reason by using different sizes of chutes is to minimize deviation. This process will be executed by an advanced electronic/mecanic device called AltAcc 2C / ARRD. The rocket will also contain a direction finder that works up to 6 kilometer, to make it possible to detect the landing area. The maximum height is calculated to 6 400 meters and the speed to Mach 1.4 (1 700 kilometer / houer) and the G force 10 G. These extreme forces the rocket will be exposed to demands a thouroghly construction and advanced materials. For my help to calculate I use a program called Rocksim (7.1) The Launch tower is a three meter framework construction made of aluminium. The tower stands on a one meter high mounting. Most of the parts for my project comes from U.S.A, Sweden and Canada, of course I manufacture a lot of parts my self. The launch will take place at Orsa Tallhed flygplats, 13/14 Nov 2004 For detailed instructions see attached Map.
